THE RIGHT REP NEWSLETTER
Having a range of books which feature disabled and neurodivergent characters on your shelves is brilliant – thank you for supporting disabled children! But not every book out there represents the disabled community fairly, sensitively, authentically, or even accurately. So, how do you know what to read and recommend, what to look for, and what to avoid?
The Right Rep newsletter is here to help!
Featuring upcoming book and author recs, helpful tips and insights into a variety of disabilities, and interviews with disabled people who share their experiences, explain why sensitive representation is so important to them, plus their own kidlit recommendations, this newsletter is intended to educate, support, and enlighten in a positive and helpful way.
Suitable for everyone, from teachers, librarians, educators, parents, and carers, to anyone else interested in the importance of authentic and sensitive disability representation in children's literature.
Would you like to be a guest? If so, I'd love to hear from you. Upcoming newsletters in 2023 will look at Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Illness, and Autism and I am seeking publishing professionals, book bloggers and reviewers, and children who share these diagnoses to chat to. I offer payment (though currently small) to everyone I feature.
If you have anything to say about The Right Rep then go for it! Email me on contact@katejfoster.com with comments, suggestions, or advice. I am all ears!
